A new Bay St. Louis Fourth Ward newsletter launches in July, with the goal of“ making good citizenship easy – and fun!” In keeping with that motto, even thenewsletter’ s name is light-hearted: “ The Fourth Ward Cleaver” makes whimsicalreference to the 1950’ s sitcom, “ Leave It To Beaver.”

The on-line newspaper will be published on a monthly basis at www.bslfourthward.com and although it’ s geared toFourth Ward residents andproperty owners, contributorsbelieve that others along thecoast will find the periodical ofinterest. Each issue will includegeneral neighborhood news, with columns on events, gardening, and Fourth Wardarchitecture. A photo gallerywill share pictures of residents’anniversaries, family reunionsand other festive occasions.
of Fourth Ward neighbors.

Allen Reed, a contributor who lives on Ballentine Street, noted that while there’ s no feeto receive an e-mail notice when a new issue is posted on-line, subscribers are askedto “ adopt” one neighbor without a computer, then print and deliver a copy to them each month.

“ It’ s a fun community project and we’ re all volunteers,” said Reed. “ And since theInternet makes it extremely inexpensive to produce, we don’ t have to seek out donationsor advertisers.”
Reed pointed out that the site also has a map of the ward and a list of useful links to cityservices and organizations. “ It should be a great informational resource for residents ofthe ward,” he said. “ But we want it to be entertaining as well.”

If the Cleaver’ s popularity grows, Reed hopes that other wards in the city will eventuallystart up their own version of the on-line newsletter. “ We think we have an easy systemin place and would be delighted to share our format. After all, the more communitiesinteract, the healthier they are.”
As the website proclaims, “ you don’ t have to live in the Fourth Ward to be part ofour neighborhood!” Those wishing to subscribe to the Fourth Ward Cleaver can sendtheir names, street address and e-mail address to: mailinglist@bslfourthward.com.Simple directions for submitting news items, photos and story ideas may be found at thenewsletter website at www.bslfourthward.com.
